Creativity Is Honesty

Your feelings are self-contained. They are wholly and solely experienced only by you. Your feelings can’t tell you what’s best for your mother or your career or your neighbor’s dog. They can’t tell you what’s best for the environment. Or what’s best for the next parliament of Lithuania. All they can do is tell you what’s best for you… and even that is debatable.

Self-Portrait In Hoody

Creativity is honesty; it is the only truth. Maybe not in an absolute sense, but it is definitely driven by vision, and that must come from somewhere innocent. And although our motivations are formed differently, we’re all pretty much the same, so we all realize the inherent vulnerability of choice. Some of us just choose to suppress what the world sees in us because we’d rather believe everyone agrees with our perspective than be challenged through openness.

At least that’s why I hid behind my engineering career. I put down my pencil for twenty years while I tried to convince myself that I made the right decision, all because I was convinced you would not accept my ideas or my vision. Obviously that’s not your fault — and I don’t know where my judgment came from. Maybe our comparisons are simply a natural part of human development as we become more aware of ourselves.

But is it natural? Because truth is relative, and this thing we consider reality may not exist. So, why do we care so much about it — what are we afraid of?
