Not sure why, but sometimes I accept often ridiculous spontaneous challenges. Like the time the boy asked me to not shave for a month; that was an itchy endeavor ending with a mockery of a beard.

A few years ago it was an agreement to run every day. We still do.

Who knew that at 52 I'd be running 100 miles a week. Ten years ago I struggled with 50; now I just wish there were more bathrooms around and more time in the day so I could keep running.

Our running challenge between us wasn’t such a big deal until December when I decided I want to run 4000 miles this year. Before January, I started thinking I was insane for the idea. But, in reality, unless it snows, 11 miles a day isn’t that much of an issue. People do a lot more all the time. I could, too. Maybe.

So far, this has been the best decision I could have made. Running so much can sometimes be tiring, but so what. I mean, who can deny a reason to spend time outside here, among all this beauty, even when the temperature is 10 below.
